Me applying Paula's makeup for the shoot
In boy band music videos, in which they use a female, that is connoted whom they are singing about, the girl is not the stereotypical "blonde, busty" female. Therefore it could be argued that they are not typically using the female for a male gaze. However, they are always attractive, so therefore it can bring in the male gaze, but in a different sense.
It could be argued that they do not use females in short clothing, revealing a lot of flesh, as it could be deemed as inappropriate due to the target audience that boy bands appeal too, which is young females.
However, the females they use are very attractive but also "sweet, innocent and classy" looking.
Therefore, we felt Paula, was the perfect female. We put her in a floral dress, to seem sweet and innocent and used pink lipstick and blusher, so she can be seen as a "girly girl" which a lot of the female fans of boy bands are.
The purpose of a female in boy band music videos, is often to stand there, looking sad, or to be seen as in love with the main singer, and it forms a little story of them finally getting together, it is connoted that the song is sung about her.
Boyzone used attractive females in Baby Can I Hold You Tonight, which were all very pretty.
And although Westlife in Uptown Girl, used the famous Claudia Schiffer in their music video, they dressed her very "classy" looking, with her long blonde locks, and they used slow motion to connote her attractiveness, and her attractiveness to the members of the band, this is something we can use at the beginning of our music video, when our female catches the lead singers eye.

Again, in The Script- For The First time, they used Eve Hewson, whom is daugther of Bono, she is a very attractive brunette, similar to our female.
