Take That win Brit Award

After 17 number 1's, pop world domination, a heart breaking split and a tearful reunion, the successful boy band (now described as a man band) have finally been crowned best British group at the Brit Awards, 21 years after their first performance on the late night TV show, "The Hitman and Her"

The Brit Awards

Music Industry Meltdown

The fact that audiences are still voting for a boy band to win this highly prestigious award, shows that they do still have an influence on modern society, and that people do still enjoy listening to their music, showing that our re-release is highly beneficial for today's market.

Our female character

We have used Paula, who is the same age as the boys, 17 years, as our female for our music video

Me applying Paula's makeup for the shoot

In boy band music videos, in which they use a female, that is connoted whom they are singing about, the girl is not the stereotypical "blonde, busty" female. Therefore it could be argued that they are not typically using the female for a male gaze. However, they are always attractive, so therefore it can bring in the male gaze, but in a different sense.

It could be argued that they do not use females in short clothing, revealing a lot of flesh, as it could be deemed as inappropriate due to the target audience that boy bands appeal too, which is young females.

However, the females they use are very attractive but also "sweet, innocent and classy" looking.

Therefore, we felt Paula, was the perfect female. We put her in a floral dress, to seem sweet and innocent and used pink lipstick and blusher, so she can be seen as a "girly girl" which a lot of the female fans of boy bands are.

The purpose of a female in boy band music videos, is often to stand there, looking sad, or to be seen as in love with the main singer, and it forms a little story of them finally getting together, it is connoted that the song is sung about her.

Boyzone used attractive females in Baby Can I Hold You Tonight, which were all very pretty.

And although Westlife in Uptown Girl, used the famous Claudia Schiffer in their music video, they dressed her very "classy" looking, with her long blonde locks, and they used slow motion to connote her attractiveness, and her attractiveness to the members of the band, this is something we can use at the beginning of our music video, when our female catches the lead singers eye.

Again, in The Script- For The First time, they used Eve Hewson, whom is daugther of Bono, she is a very attractive brunette, similar to our female.

New band members

Due to our lead singer, Andy, breaking his ankle, we can now not use him for our video, as we had not finished all our shots, we will have to start again.

We have found a new member, Jem, who is a media student, and also had a lot of background knowledge of music, as he is in his own boy band.

As we have had to change all our footage, and had to do this as quickly as possible, one of our band members, Aaron, was unavailable when we needed him, due to this we have had to change him for a new member too.

Sam, will be taking Aaron's role.

Gaining permission to use our track

We had many problems in trying to find who had the production rights over Backstreet Boys, therefore we posted a comment on one of their fan pages, FanPop, however, we did not receive any replies.

Through research, we found that Backstreet Boys were signed to Jive records, which is their American production company, under the banner of Zomba Music Group, operated under Sony Music Entertainment (UK)

We also found that Backstreet Boys have left Jive records- Backstreet Boys leave Jive Records  but they still have one more album to release with the company, and that they have not signed themselves to anyone else as of yet- Backstreet Boys label

Therefore, it is Zomba music group, that we need to get in contact with to gain permission to use Backstreet Boys- As Long As You Love Me.

We contacted Sony Music, who then gave us a number for someone called "Shirley Clarke"

She then told us to email her the details of our coursework, and our intentions with the music video.

This was our reply

As there was clearly issues with using the music video online, we emailed Shirley, full details on how long it will be on Youtube and Blogger for, and to make sure we are not using it for any commercial gain.
