  • The Statue Of Liberty connotes it is set in New York, a famous land mark, when it is turned over it becomes clear that it is a postcard.
  • A girl writing a post card, she is reading in her head what she is writing, this is inner- diegetic sound.
  • There is a picture of her and her boyfriend as she is talking about him in the postcard, they are holding a sign saying "greetings from across the pond" connoting she has moved away from home to America

  • This is connoted by her talking about Dublin and saying how she is dying for a proper piece of brown bed, and that she says "not to miss her too much"
  • Lying on her bed as the lyrics come on saying "she's all laid up in bed with a broken heart." Making it a narrative and performance video.
  • Pictures of home on the wall
  • Black and white shots of the main singer, lip syncing, common code of pop videos, the black and white also sets the mood of the song
  • Cuts back to the girl, she is looking lonely as her boyfriend is on the phone

  • Inter cuts back to the singer again in black and white
  • Shot of the fingers playing the piano, shows musical ability
  • Cuts back to the male and female in the bedroom

Bruno Mars- Just the way you are

Bruno Mars - The Other Side on MUZU.

  • Bruno Mars- Just the way you are
  • A very creative music video
  • Medium shot of a females chest listening to a music player, then moves up to her face, inter-diegetic music, we can here what is playing (this is the song that the music video is for)
  • Shot of the music player and someone picking it up and turning it off and taking the tape out- narrative enigma- the audience are not sure why they are doing that
  • The girl has an open mouth connoting she is shocked he has turned it off, although it is a playful look
  • Shot reverse shot of the man and woman, you then realise the male is Bruno Mars
  • Bruno takes the tape apart, shot of it on the table
  • Spells out his name and the title of the song using the tape
  • The name is also on the tape cassette connoting this is the song the female was listening too him
  • He then draws a drum, beats and vibrates coming off it when he moves his fingers, special effects
  • Draws the females eyes (they then close- again special effects) this also connotes the song is about her and he is singing to her

  • He then draws hair on the girls face using the tape, this is when he is singing about her hair, the video is following the lyrics connoting it is a narrative video
  • Shot to the girl with a playful look on her face, she is embarrassed but flattered
  • Close up of Bruno lip syncing- common code of a pop music video
  • The girl pushes her hair out of her face on the tape image then on her real face, mirroring actions
  • Image of Bruno in tape- mouth moving in time with the lyrics- singing- lip syncing

  • The tape gradually gets further away without the camera moving, you can then see the whole of Bruno's figure
  • Shot reverse shot of the girl and Bruno, not looking at the camera but at each other, he is singing to her
  • Tape image of the girl smiling when he sings about her smiling again connoting it is narrative as the lyrics fit what is happening on screen
  • She closes the mouth on the tape figure and Bruno opens it back to a smiling face again- playful and fun
  • The girl then sits next to Bruno

  • Two shot of Bruno and the female- you can see the tape silhouette in the background
  • The tape then turns to a keyboard and the girl's hands are playing the keyboard
  • Zooms in and out of the tape image of Bruno, without the camera moving, creates closes ups and long shots
  • The girl then rings the tape which is in a shape of a bell
  • And the tape changes to Bruno on the piano
  • Shot of Bruno on the piano
  • Side shots of Bruno another common convention of pop music videos
